Our Services

People + Space has experience in land-use planning, urban design, building design and interior design, providing a broad understanding of how planning, architecture and interiors work together to shape a successful project.

My background allows me to look at projects holistically — from how a property is planned and developed, through the design of the building itself, to the interior spaces and details experienced by the people who ultimately use them. Connecting these disciplines helps create thoughtful, cohesive spaces that reflect both the client’s vision and the practical requirements of the project.

Clients work directly with me throughout the process, from early site planning and concept development through permitting, construction drawings and finish selections. This continuity provides a more personal and coordinated experience, with one designer who understands the project from beginning to end.

The goal is to provide a comprehensive design service that helps projects move forward smoothly while keeping budget, timeline and overall design intent at the forefront.

What We
Offer

01

Meet + Collaborate

Every project begins with a conversation.

Before moving forward, I like to meet with my clients to understand the project, the people involved and what they hope to achieve. We’ll discuss the property or existing space, overall vision, wish list, budget, timeline and expectations.

From there, I develop a detailed proposal outlining the recommended scope of work and next steps.

03

Site Planning + Design

Understanding the context of a property is an important starting point for any project.

Whether the project involves bare land, an existing home or building, an addition, renovation, subdivision or development application, I begin by understanding the site and the opportunities and constraints that may influence the design.

Site visits and coordination with land surveyors and other consultants may form part of this process as the project develops.

05

Building Permit + Construction Drawings

I prepare detailed drawing packages for building permit applications in coordination with the consultants required for the project.

Permit drawings provide the information needed for submission to the Authority Having Jurisdiction and can also assist contractors in preparing preliminary construction pricing.

As the project progresses, these drawings can be developed into a more comprehensive construction package, including plans, interior elevations, millwork details, finish information and other documentation required to clearly communicate the design.

07

Finishes Selection

Material and finish selections are developed around the approved design direction, taking into consideration aesthetics, functionality, durability and budget.

Selections may include:
- Finish Selection: flooring, tile, cabinetry, countertops, paint, interior doors, hardware, appliances, fireplace units, finish carpentry & glazing.
- Lighting Plans & Fixture Selection
- Plumbing Fixtures Selection
- Custom Millwork Designs
- Interior Detailing and Elevations

The goal is to create a cohesive palette in which each selection works together as part of the overall space.

02

Municipal Planning + Zoning Bylaw Review

With a background in urban development and land-use planning, I can assist clients in navigating the municipal requirements that may affect their project.

Depending on the scope, this may include zoning and bylaw review, rezoning, subdivision, development permit and variance applications, as well as the drawings and supporting documentation required for submission.

When required, I also coordinate with consultants and municipal staff and can assist with meetings, Council presentations and public hearings.

04

Space Planning + Building Design

Good design begins with thoughtful space planning.

During the schematic design and design development phases, I explore how spaces relate to one another and how they can best support the people who will use them.

Plans and 3D modelling help communicate the design and allow clients to visualize the project as it develops. These drawings then form the foundation for building permit documentation and, ultimately, construction.

06

Coordination with Consultants

Successful projects are collaborative.

Depending on the project, I coordinate with professionals such as land surveyors, structural and civil engineers, energy advisors, contractors, millworkers and other specialists.

I act as a consistent point of contact on the design side, helping ensure information is coordinated and that the various components of the project support the overall design intent.

08

Construction Coordination

My involvement doesn't necessarily end when the drawings are complete.

During construction, I can remain involved through regular site visits, contractor communication, design clarification and coordination as questions arise.

This continuity helps protect the original design intent and gives clients a knowledgeable point of contact throughout the construction process, while continuing to consider budget, schedule and practical site conditions.

We've been using People plus Space services for the design of our winery "Roche Wines" in Penticton. We had a vision in mind and some good ideas of what we wanted but no building knowledge. Heather did a great job at designing the building and helped us put our dream work/hospitality place together. Her taste for materials is close to what we like, it for sure made things easier!
